Workshop & Services

Community Dialogues - An organized discussion between CARON staff, the community, and Deputy Sheriffs to address past, present, and future issues or concerns that may exist in the community. Participants are asked to complete a Youth Dialogue survey/answer questions or complete a Community Dialogue survey after the meeting to share their thoughts about the presentation or dialogues and services in the community.

Workshops - CARON offers drug, gang and anti-violence awareness workshops to the community. These workshops educate families on current drug trends, symptoms and paraphernalia. Gang awareness educates parents on why our youth join gangs, the definitions of a gang , types of gangs that exist within our communities and behaviors commonly associated with gang involvement.

The Community Academy is offered a week for seven weeks course. The academy provides information about the C.A.R.O.N program, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and other topics including, but not limited to: drugs, gangs, domestic violence, civic engagement, S.W.A.T. Team presentation, K-9 Demonstration, Correctional Facility Tour, Office of Emergency Services, and San Mateo County Communications.

The Youth Dialogues provide a safe forum for youth to speak candidly with members of C.A.R.O.N Program regarding the community, and for C.A.R.O.N to provide information on the role the program plays in the community. At the Community Dialogues, the community, C.A.R.O.N staff, and the Deputy Sheriffs discuss past, present, and future issues that exist in the community. Participants are asked to complete a Youth Dialogue survey/answer questions or complete a Community Dialogue survey after the meeting to share their thoughts about the presentation or dialogues and services in the community.

Youth Mentorship - The Youth Mentorship Program collaborates directly with the schools to mentor students that may be vulnerable. The groups meet once a week to discuss various issues such as bullying, peer pressure, self confidence and defiance. At the conclusion of the school year, the groups are taken out on a field trip.

Parenting Classes - Parenting Classes are offered once a week for four weeks. The Parenting Classes are led by a facilitator and participants discuss topics including leadership and communication within the family. At the conclusion of the course, the parents are given a certificate for their hard work and attendance.

Neighborhood Watch Programs - The CARON Program will assist communities in organizing Neighborhood Watch Program. Community members are instructed and assisted on the fundamental on how to start and operate a neighborhood watch program. Once the neighborhood watch is established, the CARON Program will provide Neighborhood Watch Signs for their community efforts.

Home Visits/Home Meetings - CARON staff conducts home visits to those that may be in need or in crisis. Staff will closely work with the families and talk about the core issues and possible solutions. Home visits are made all year around. CARON Staff members refer families to other agencies to assist them with their specific needs. The families are provided with a Sheriff’s Activities League Certificate to cover enrollment costs for their children.

Educational Field Trips - We offer educational field trips to students have excelled or have made a tremendous improvement in their studies.
